What is the course about?
If you are keen to progress onto our Design, Surveying and Planning T level but haven’t quite got the grades, or if you need that little bit longer to develop your skills and knowledge before making the step to a T-Level, then this T Level Foundation Year is perfect for you.
The T Level Foundation Year is specifically designed to develop your skills, experience, knowledge and behaviours to support progression onto the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning. It is aimed at those learners who are not quite ready to start a T Level but have the potential to progress onto one.
Why should I choose the course?
The T Level Foundation Year in Design, Surveying and Planning is a one year course which has been designed collaboratively between our expert teachers, industry links and employers. You will have the opportunity to develop your English, Maths and digital skills as a key aspect of your T Level Foundation Year. You will also develop skills for successful study, positive attitudes and behaviours, knowledge and skills for the workplace and industry-based knowledge and skills throughout the programme.
What will I learn?
You will develop all of the attributes necessary to progress onto our Design, Surveying and Planning T Level.
You will build your knowledge and skills in English and Maths, with the aim of achieving your GCSE qualification in both of these subjects by the end of the programme. You will be supported to develop positive attitudes and behaviours, with potential barriers around pastoral and personal development being addressed, to prepare you for T-Level. Additionally, you will develop industry relevant knowledge and skills for the workplace, through completion of skill and knowledge based national technical outcomes.
This will focus primarily on
- Health and safety
- Science, measurement and building technology
- Information, data and digital technology
- Construction mathematical techniques
- Design and sustainability
- Construction and the built environment
What will the course lead on to?
The course will fully prepare you with the skills, knowledge and behaviour required to progress onto our Design, Surveying and Planning T Level.
Are there any links with industry and university?
You will take part in purposeful employer engagement throughout the programme to fully prepare you for the transition to a T Level programme and specifically for the T Level industry placement and future work-readiness. Activity will include work tasters and work experience opportunities. You will develop key employability skills including time management, problem-solving, working with colleagues, and communication skills. There are opportunities to develop these skills through work preparation prior to work experience, as part of the pastoral support and personal development activity and through technical skills learning.
What support is available?
You will be allocated a progress coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and progress on to your chosen career or progression path. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a welfare team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
