What is the course about?

This course will build on the skills learned in the introductory drawing and sketching course. You will further develop your skills and knowledge in drawing and sketching, through use of a wide range of materials and techniques. You will adopt an increasingly focussed approach to selection of subject matter whilst developing a more focussed understanding of other artists and their approaches to drawing and sketching.

Why should I choose the course?

This course is ideal for anyone with an interest in developing their skills and knowledge in drawing and sketching. The course is suitable both for those who completed the introduction course and those with some previous experience in drawing and sketching.

What will I learn?

You will develop a wide range of drawing and sketching techniques. You will apply your developing knowledge of layout and composition, creating focal points, line and tone drawing, colour, texture, and form. You will use a wide range of drawing media such as pencil, pen, charcoal, pastel, and graphite. You will be encouraged to work from a focussed subject matter through negotiation with your tutor, which may include landscape, seascape, architecture, portraiture, or still life.

You will deepen your understanding of drawing and sketching artists, in order to further your understanding of contextual references and to inspire your own artworks.
