What is the course about?
This online short course is part of the Warrington Vale Royal College professional development suite. This course introduces students to the key aspects of running a small business or social enterprise.
Why should I choose the course?
This course is one that is universally important regardless of what industry and level of profession you are working in. This course will help students develop an understanding of how the different aspects of running a business interrelate to achieve success.
This course is completed remotely, students are provided the information and materials which are set up ready through an online platform and can complete in their own time. Students are provided 6 weeks to complete the modules.
What will I learn?
On this course you will be introduced to the key aspects of running a small business or social enterprise. You will learn about the activities involved in running a small business to include:
- Developing good relationships with customers
- Planning and allocating resources
- Forecasting and budgeting
- Interpreting financial statements
- Dealing with legislation and regulation
- Developing a business plan
What will the course lead on to?
The course will give you the knowledge to take the next steps in setting up a small business. You could also choose to further develop your skills by studying a number of business and management courses.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
