What is the course about?
More than 1 in every 100 people in the UK have an autism diagnosis. This level 3 course is designed for students who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of the condition as well as the challenges and strengths that autistic people may experience. You will learn about characteristics, diagnosis, and how understanding and different theories surrounding autism have developed over time. Within this qualification, the term ‘autism’ is used as an umbrella term for all autistic spectrum conditions, including Asperger’s syndrome.

By completing this course, you can achieve a nationally recognised level 3 qualification. The distance learning format enables you to learn at a time that suits you, without the need to attend college.
What will I learn?
This course will cover the following topics:
- Autism in context
- Positive behavioural support for autistic individuals
- Support and management of transitions for autistic individuals
- Therapeutic interventions and support available for autistic individuals and co-occurring conditions
- Safeguarding and resilience in autism.

Upon completion of this course, there are a wide variety of level 2 and level 3 distance learning courses that you may wish to complete.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
