What is the apprenticeship about?
A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team. Working in the private, public, or charity sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific duties will vary but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same regardless of the specific role. Your key duties are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.
Why should I choose this apprenticeship?
This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge required to be an aspiring team leader. Your responsibilities may include supporting, managing, and developing your team members, managing projects, and planning and monitoring workloads and resources. Delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building work relationships are also key factors in becoming a successful team leader.
What will I learn?
The programme will cover the breadth and depth of the standard, using suggested on-programme assessment methods that integrate the required knowledge, skills, and behaviour components. Assessments are designed to ensure that you are sufficiently prepared to undertake a work-based project and move to End Point Assessment (EPA). The core knowledge, skills, and behaviours covered within the standard are:
- Interpersonal excellence
- Organisational performance – delivering results
- Personal effectiveness – managing self
- Leading and managing people
- Building relationships
- Project management
- Finance
Operational management.
How is the apprenticeship delivered?
On-programme learning will require you to achieve the Institute for Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 3 Diploma for Managers
Knowledge:
The knowledge component will be delivered in a series of one-day workshops. This component can be delivered at the college or in the workplace, and will be tailored to your organisation. You will be required to complete online assignment or knowledge tests to confirm your understanding of the topic.
Competence:
Our aim is to create an individual learning plan to suit both the apprentice’s and the employer's needs. The plan will include observations, assignments, professional discussions, product evidence and witness statements.
You will be required to undertake initial assessments for English and maths if you do not hold a Grade C/4 or relevant equivalent qualification. Achievement in both English and maths is required as part of the on-programme learning, to enable successful completion of the apprenticeship.
What will the apprenticeship lead on to?
Upon completion, you may choose to register as an associate member with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support your professional career development and progression.
You may wish to progress onto a level 5 qualification in operations/departmental management.
After successfully completing this course and enhancing your skills and knowledge, there may be opportunities for progression or promotion within your current job role.
What support is available?
You will be allocated a designated apprentice coach to guide you through your apprenticeship. We also have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required, and a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support, and help when needed. Over nine in ten of our apprentices continue in employment or receive a promotion once they have completed their apprenticeship. We also have a dedicated apprenticeship matching service which matches your skills to a suitable apprenticeship employer. The college is dedicated to supporting you on-programme and helping you progress on to the next step.
What are the entry requirements?
Individual employers set the selection criteria, and this is likely to include 5 GCSEs, including English and maths, although some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant level 2 qualification.
You must have a minimum of one level 2 functional skills qualification in English or maths and be willing to complete functional skills in the other subject alongside your apprenticeship. This must be achieved prior to taking the EPA. An assessment will be required to establish your level.
You must also line manage at least two team members in your job role.
