What is the course about?

The Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker is an apprenticeship suited those wanting a career in the health and social care sector. You will develop the knowledge, skills, behaviours needed to be successful in a career in this diverse and engaging sector, while building your understanding of best working practices and team leading.

The apprentice will work with, not only their colleagues, but interact with a wide range of health care professionals including managers, District Nurses, GP’s/Consultants, rehabilitation professionals, such as SALT, physiotherapists, occupational health, podiatrists and various members of a hospital care and discharge team, taking the lead with the care and rehabilitation planning. The apprentice will work as a lead member of a team, ensuring frontline staff are improving the quality of life of those they support.

This apprenticeship is for individuals looking to further their career in Health and Social Care and step into a senior role. The apprentice will achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.

What will I learn?

You will spend the majority of your time learning on the job with your employer. However, there will be elements that will be delivered at college in a classroom setting, including legislation and regulations surrounding medication administration and the Mental Capacity Act. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will cover a range of modules, such as importance of handling information, legislation and supporting regulations, medication administration and ordering, returning, stock checks, handling of controlled drugs and audits.

How is the apprenticeship delivered?

The Apprenticeship is mainly work-based learning. However, there will be elements that will be delivered through a classroom setting.

These include legislations and regulations surrounding medication administration, the Mental Capacity Act

In addition, one to one sessions will take place in the workplace to complete Progress Reviews, Work-based Observations, Recorded Professional Discussions, Retrospective Observations and the assessment of workplace product evidence.

What will the course lead on to?

Upon achievement, apprentices may choose to continue their studies with a higher-level Apprenticeship, for example Lead Practitioner in Adult Care, Leader in Adult Care. Alternatively, they may choose to apply to study at University.

What support is available?

You will be allocated a designated tutor to guide you through your apprenticeship. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

What are the entry requirements?

Ideally you will have GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C or above. It would be beneficial if you have completed a level 2 qualification, but this is not essential.

You must hold at least one level 2 functional skills qualification in English or maths and must achieve the other as part of your apprenticeship. An initial assessment will be required to assess your level and individual needs.

You must be working in a job role that will allow you to demonstrate competencies in the workplace.
