What is the course about?
This course is designed and developed for those wishing to gain knowledge and skills of User Interface and User Experience across the Digital industries. This course will enable you to develop skills around UI and UX and gain an understanding of human-computer interaction (HCI), benefits to user and platforms, and user problems. You will also work closely with our employer partners who will provide masterclasses and live briefs to put you at the forefront of this exciting and innovative industry whilst developing cutting edge skills.
You will study in college for 6 hours per week and will also be required to complete supported independent learning of approximately 6 hours per week at home. All online resources and guidance will be provided by the course lecturer.
Why should I choose the course?
According to Forbes, User Experience (UX) design, and the closely related field of User Interface (UI) design, are set to become increasingly valuable and sought-after skills. This is due to the extent in which digital transformation is effectively turning every company into a tech company, and every job into a tech job. Demand for UX designers is rising with both Glassdoor and LinkedIn identifying the role as one of the top 50 jobs to have in 2022. Similarly, UX design was identified as one of the top five most in-demand skills to possess.
What will I learn?
You will learn about UI and UX, and how this is implemented across different Digital industries. You will cover subjects such as:
- Usability testing
- User flow design
- Design process
You will also learn about the Digital industries, how to secure employment, interview techniques and personal development through live briefs set by employers.
What will the course lead on to?
This course can support progression onto a Higher Education programme, Higher Level Apprenticeship or Higher Technical qualification in Computing or Games Design & Development. Those who successfully complete the course may also be able to secure employment or boost their career progression opportunities within the digital industry.

The college works with employers such as ABB Ltd, Draw and Code, Apple, 10:10 Games and Vizbox. The Advanced Creative & Digital Skills Centre is proud to work with a wide range of local and national employers who will deliver industry-specific skills and knowledge during the course, offer learners the chance to take part in competitions or live briefs and often talent spot for their next employees.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required and a welfare team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
You should have a level 2 qualification in a relevant or related subject, or have appropriate industry experience in order to meet the demands of this level 3 course. You should also have literacy/English skills at level 2/grade 4 or above.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
There are no specific extra costs, however, you should have access to a suitable digital device (i.e. laptop or computer) outside of the college as well as access to the internet. You may also wish to purchase any appropriate books/stationery to support their studies.
