What is the course about?
This highly practical one-year qualification is designed to enhance your knowledge of the thriving beauty industry and further develop your skills, preparing you for a successful and fulfilling career in a salon or other beauty environment. The course will enable you to develop your knowledge and hone your skill, ready to enter the industry. If you are interested in working with people and would like to develop specialist skills in face and body electrotherapies and body massage, then this is the ideal course for you.

The sector boasts a workforce of over 245,000 people working across 55,000 businesses comprising of hair, beauty and nail salons, barbers, and spas. HABIA states the industry size and turnover annually in this sector is £6.2 billion, employing nearly a quarter of a million people. As one of the biggest growing industries in Cheshire currently, there are plenty of opportunities to earn high wages.
Learning on your course will take place in our state-of-the-art salon, The Academy, which features fully equipped professional beauty therapy suites. Being immersed in this front-facing salon environment and working on real paying clients will give the opportunity to put your newly developed skills to the test and receive live, honest critique. The open salon practical sessions will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your professionalism and develop a range of beauty therapy techniques for a variety of skin types.
What will I learn?
During this comprehensive, hands-on one-year course, you will focus on more advanced skills and techniques, such as body analysis, body massage, face electrotherapy treatments, electrical epilation and microdermabrasion. While learning in a real-working onsite salon, you will also gain experience providing services to customers, doing client consultations and working in line with health and safety practices.
What will the course lead on to?
After successfully completing this course, you will have the skills and knowledge needed to progress on to employment within a salon, spa, mobile work, or within a skin or massage clinic. After completion of this course, you may even wish to apply for Steiner and gain employment on a cruise ship, carrying out beauty treatments whilst travelling the world. There are also other exciting opportunities to work in various salon and spa chains across the world within countries such as Dubai and Bermuda.
Alternatively, you may wish to progress on to other accredited courses or even move on to university, to gain specialised training in areas such as semi-permanent micropigmentation, micro-blading, dermaplaning, micro needling, peels, laser and non-invasive liposuction, and much more.
Are there any links with industry and university?
In order to enhance your learning and knowledge of the wider sector, you will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers throughout your course, who will come in and talk about their specialist area or their working environment. Guest speakers have included a range of employers and manufacturers such as Kaeso, Environ, and Silhouette, as well as apprentices who have progressed with their career and opened their own businesses. Previously we have also hosted advanced trainers who have delivered sessions in specialist areas such as microblading and micro needling.
Our links with product companies will also provide you with a trade card, allowing you to build on your product repertoire for home use to build on your skills. We also have strong links with Steiner, a connection which will open your eyes to the exciting opportunity of working in beauty therapy on cruise ships whilst travelling the world.
We will also support you in securing a two-week work placement in a relevant vocational setting, enabling you to gain a taste of a real-life working environment. This could even be your opportunity to impress and secure a part-time job or apprenticeship!
What support is available?
You will be allocated a progress coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and progress on to your chosen career or progression path. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

What are the entry requirements?
You will need to have successfully completed a level 2 course in the relevant subject.
If you have a level 2 qualification and not already achieved a grade 4 in your GCSE English and/or maths, you will be required to work towards achieving this as part of your study programme.
Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
At level 3 you will be expected to purchase a uniform to demonstrate your professional standards- further details will be available on application.
Various trips are organised throughout the academic year relating to the beauty industry, which you will be required to pay a contribution towards.
