What is the course about?
This course has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques including creatively cutting men’s hair and the intricate specialist work of cutting facial hair. You will also develop a sound knowledge of monitoring health and safety whilst working in the barbering industry.
Why should I choose the course?
Building on the skills that you will have developed on the Level 2 Barbering course, the purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services and prepare you for a career as a senior barber.
Learning on your course will take place in our state-of-the-art, front-facing salon, The Academy. Being immersed in the salon environment and working on real paying clients will give you the opportunity to put your newly developed skills to the test and receive live, honest critique. The open salon practical sessions will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your professionalism and develop a range of techniques for a variety of clients.
What will I learn?
During the course, you will learn how to monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon, alongside a variety of advanced barbering skills. These will include creatively cutting men's hair and creating a variety of facial hair looks with the use of clippers, razors, and techniques such as fading, disconnecting, razor cutting, and texturizing.
During the course you will be assessed through practical observation on a range of fee-paying clients, and you will also build a portfolio containing images of the designs that you have created.
What will the course lead on to?
There is an increasing demand for barbering services, with many students going on to own their own barbering business. Alternatively, there are abundant career opportunities in commercial barbershops.
Are there any links with industry and university?
The hairdressing and barbering team have close industry links, and guest speakers from companies such as Wella are invited into college to speak to students on a regular basis.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
