What is the course about?
This qualification is suitable for those who wish to understand mental health in young children in the early years (from birth to 5 years old) and the role of the Early Years Practitioner to support children’s mental health and wellbeing.

By completing the qualification, you will develop knowledge which would support progression to further qualifications and into relevant employment in the health and social care or education sectors.
You will be taught by qualified teachers who have experience working with children in the early years sector.
What will I learn?
There are 3 units that must be completed to achieve the qualification these are:
- Understand mental health for young children in the early years
- Understand the significance of attachment and adverse childhood experiences for young children in the early years
- Understand the role of the Early Years Practitioner supporting mental health and wellbeing for young children in the early years
You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence.
What will the course lead on to?
Through achieving this qualification, learners will develop knowledge which would support progression to further qualifications and into relevant employment in the health and social care or education sectors.
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
- Level 2 Certificate Understanding Working in the Health Sector
- Level 3 Certificate Understanding Mental Health
- Level 3 Certificate Working in the Health Sector
- Level 3 Diploma Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)
- Level 3 Technical Diploma Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator)
- Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care.

As part of the Health & Social Care Academy we have valuable industry links within the community and with universities. These links provide opportunities to go out on industry placement to further develop your skills should you choose to complete further qualifications with us.
