What is the course about?

This course is ideal if you would like to follow a career path in bricklaying, as it is the starting point for those with little or no experience in this field. The course acts as the foundation before you take the next step in your learning and development, and will teach you the basic practical and theoretical elements of brickwork. This will enable you to get to grips with the skills required to make a good tradesman within the construction industry.

Why should I choose the course?

This course is ideal if you have an interest in the specialist trade of bricklaying, and are looking to progress in the construction industry as a bricklayer. You will gain an industry recognised qualification from City & Guilds and study in our dedicated Colin Daniels Constructions Centre with well-equipped workshops, carrying a wide range of tools and materials. There's never been a more exciting time to start a bricklaying career. There is a huge drive to build thousands of new homes each year throughout the UK, so your skills will be in very high demand, and this course will give you the essential skills to break into the industry.

What will I learn?

This wide-ranging introductory course will teach you the skills needed to progress in the building trade. You will learn how to construct basic brickwork structures from setting out, cavity walling, and blockwork, to mixing mortar and concrete as well as learning essential health and safety. All of this is delivered in our specialist construction workshops, and you'll also have access to well-appointed classrooms and computer facilities to enhance your learning and provide an effective link between the theoretical and practical aspects of the course. You will be assessed through a range of methods including practical assessments, job-related tests and online computer-based exams.

What will the course lead on to?

After successfully completing this course, you will have the skills and knowledge to progress onto the Level 2 in Brickwork where you will refine your skills as a more experienced bricklayer, or you could even pursue an apprenticeship. The construction industry is thriving and with hard work and relevant experience, you could soon be working your way up the career ladder to become a construction site supervisor, or even a surveyor. With a government target of 300,000 new homes to be built per year, the earning potential in this industry is incredible.
