What is the course about?
This Level 1 Award Brickwork course is aimed at those students wishing to gain some understanding and some practical experience of bricklaying to enable them to complete various small bricklaying tasks at home.
This course has been introduced to allow a complete novice to gain the confidence to complete the tasks at home or potentially allow them to move onto further studies within the bricklaying trade or gain employment after further studies.
Why should I choose the course?
This course covers a range of hand-skills and practical tasks in bricklaying to give you the confidence to tackle those small bricklaying jobs at home like ‘build your own BBQ’.
What will I learn?
Over the weeks you will be developing skills and knowledge in the following:
- Introduction to health and safety in construction
- Constructing half brick return corners
- Constructing cavity walls in brickwork and blockwork
- Constructing one brick walling
- Constructing block walling
What will the course lead on to?
On completion of the course you could progress to full diploma.
Are there any links with industry and university?
The qualification is aligned to bricklaying practices and can be the first step towards a career in the construction industry if students wish.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
Students will need to purchase a pair of steel toe-capped boots to allow for safe working in the workshop environment.
