What is the course about?

This qualification aims to develop and enhance skills required for the working environment and improve learners’ confidence and communication skills in order to prepare them for employment or for a change in employment.

It is a short introduction for anyone preparing to enter the world of work. The course is also suitable for anyone already working who wishes to formalise and further develop their existing experience and skills. The qualification is also suitable for learners undertaking larger programmes of study in related industries (healthcare, sport etc). In addition, the qualification provides a basis for those who may wish to progress to further study and development.

What will I learn?

During this course, you will cover four topics including:

  • Understanding Mindset: You will understand how employability can be affected by mindset, focusing on the key qualities sought by employers.
  • Understanding Motivation: You will be introduced to an exploration of what motivates or demotivates people and the impact this can have.
  • Dealing with your first day at work: You will cover the importance of first impressions, understanding where you fit with others and in the organisation, and who they have to work with and report to.
  • Working in a team: You will be introduced to some of the basic skills needed to work in a team in a work context.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
