What is the course about?

If you have always wanted to learn an exciting new language, this introductory course is ideal for you! The course is suitable for adults aged 19 and over who have little or no knowledge of French.

Why should I choose the course?

Whether you want to be able to speak confidently on holiday, enhance your employability, or even just have some fun learning something new, this course will help you begin to achieve your goals.

What will I learn?

This course will focus on the vocabulary needed to increase confidence in dealing with everyday situations. You will develop your knowledge of the language and learn about French culture.

You will develop and practise basic French reading, listening, and speaking skills. These will include:

  • Who are you? Meeting and greeting people, jobs and professions, nationalities
  • At the restaurant: food and drink, ordering in a restaurant, making friends
  • In the city: asking and saying where places are, distances, directions
  • How is it? Describing places, saying what something is like, booking into a hotel
  • Shopping: types of shop, what you can buy, weights and measures.

You will be informally assessed by the tutor, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.
