What is the course about?

This course provides an exciting introduction to cake decorating. You will gain the skills you need to confidently decorate cakes using marzipan, buttercream, Swiss buttercream, and royal icing.

Why should I choose the course?

This introductory course is suitable for adults who want to delve into the world of cake decorating. If you would like to boost your skills and create beautifully decorated cakes, this is the course for you!

What will I learn?

On this course you will cover a variety of topics that may include:

§ Weigh and measure ingredients accurately

§ Plan, prepare, and finish dishes within an agreed time

§ Begin to work with royal icing (basic techniques), rolling to cover a cake

§ Coat and decorate cakes, using buttercream, Swiss butter cream etc

§ Model with marzipan.

Suggested session plan: create models in week one and two, decorate cakes in week three, and finish full decoration with models/ribbon etc in week four. This suggested plan will depend on the skill level of the students in the class.

All students must wear a full covered shoe without a heel, tie long hair back, and wear a hat or cap along with an apron. Jewellery must be removed when in the kitchen.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged at least 19 and have an interest in the subject area. You must also be willing to partake in classroom activities and discussions and to self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan at the end of each session.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?

There are no additional costs, although you will need to bring along a plastic tub to take away items that you have prepared.
