What is the course about?

If you’d like to begin studying English and boost your reading, writing, and communication skills, this course is ideal for you. Perhaps you want to be able to help a friend or relative with their English work or gain the skills needed to progress on to a further, more technical English course. Whatever your intention, this course will equip you with the basic skills you need to get started

Why should I choose the course?

This course will boost your confidence with the English language and could help you progress onto further study.

What will I learn?

This entry level course will help you learn the basics of effective reading, writing, and verbal communication. If you’ve not studied English for a long period of time, or struggle with your reading and writing, this can be a perfect refresher course before you move on to more technical study. The course will introduce you to the basics of spelling, punctuation, and grammar whilst also supporting you to become a more confident reader and communicator. It could also be a steppingstone to the Level 1 English course, if appropriate. You could even go on to achieve your English GCSE.

There is no formal assessment for this course, however your tutor will provide short assessments throughout your learning.

What will the course lead on to?

This entry level course offers an ideal steppingstone to the Level 1 English course. When you are ready, you could progress on to resitting your English GCSE.

What support is available?

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
