What is the course about?

This course will teach you how to confidently decorate Christmas cakes and give them the wow factor!

Why should I choose the course?

This course is suitable for adults aged 19 and over who wish to learn how to decorate their own pre-purchased Christmas cake (fruit or sponge).

What will I learn?

On this course you will cover a variety of topics that may include:

· Planning your design for your Christmas cake

§ How to use and roll readymade marzipan and fondant icing to cover a cake

§ How to add food colouring to fondant icing and butter cream

§ How to pipe butter cream

§ How to use tools and techniques to create effectives

§ Model and 3D models in fondant icing

§ Painting on lettering and icing lettering.

During this course you must wear a full covered shoe without a heel, tie long hair back, and wear a hat or cap along with an apron. Jewellery must be removed when in the kitchen.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged at least 19 and have an interest in the subject area. You must also be willing to partake in classroom activities and discussions and to self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan at the end of each session.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?

You will need to purchase or make your own fruit or sponge cake.

The tutor will advise at week one when to purchase or make cakes to decorate. You will need to provide a tin or plastic container to take your cakes home in. You may wish to purchase your own cake decorating tools along with a notebook and pen for taking notes.
