Winsford based college to host dedicated information evening for parents of Year 11 pupils unsure about their next steps

Warrington & Vale Royal College is hosting an information evening at its Winsford campus next week, Tuesday 3rd February, dedicated to its Foundation Learning and Supported Internship pathways.

The event will offer a calm, welcoming environment to those in Year 11, along with their parents and carers, to explore entry-level options and the extensive support available at the college. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the college’s specialist Foundation Learning and Supported Internship teams, ask questions, and gain reassurance about leaving high school. Parents and carers can expect to leave the event feeling assured that their child can progress to the college and become more independent, confident, and skilled.

What is Foundation Learning?

Foundation Learning is a specially designed entry-level pathway for students who need a more gradual transition from school to studying at level 2 or 3. The courses offered focus on building essential skills such as communication, confidence, teamwork, and independence, alongside personalised learning in areas like English and maths.

Foundation Learning courses are structured to help students progress at their own pace, with the aim of supporting them into higher-level courses or employment. Ultimately, the goal is to help them achieve independence as they approach adulthood.

What are Supported Internships?

Supported Internships are highly structured, work-based programmes for students aged 16-24 with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) who are ready to take the next step towards the world of work, but with support.

Students spend most of their time in the workplace, supported by Job Coaches who help them learn and master tasks, build employability skills, and gain confidence. Alongside their work placement, students continue to develop key skills at college, ensuring they are fully prepared for meaningful employment once their internship ends.

Supported Internships are an excellent option for young people who thrive with routine, enjoy hands-on learning, and would benefit from personalised support.

Supported Internships

Support for every student

Key members of the college’s Foundation Learning, Supported Internships, and support teams will be on hand throughout the event to explain how support is tailored to each student’s needs. This includes:

  • One-to-one support and personalised learning plans
  • Specialist staff trained to support SEND students
  • A nurturing environment that builds confidence
  • Clear progression routes to help every student move forward.

Parents and carers will be invited to explore classrooms and learning spaces, meet experienced staff, and hear more about how the college works closely with families to ensure a smooth and positive transition from high school to college.

Your child's future in safe hands

For many parents and carers, the period after GCSE Results Day can feel daunting, especially if their child is unsure about their next steps. Warrington & Vale Royal College is here to help, and this relaxed, informative evening has been created with those parents in mind. It is hoped the event will provide clarity, guidance, and reassurance.

The college encourages all families who feel their child may benefit from entry-level learning or a supportive route into employment to come along, meet the team, and see first-hand the inclusive, welcoming environment that awaits their child.
