T Level Foundation Year: Health and Science student Carla Ledden discusses the importance of Foundation Year options

Former Rudheath Senior Academy student Carla Ledden has started her journey towards a career in the care sector, enrolling on the T Level Foundation Year: Health and Science course.

Carla Ledden

After hearing about the college’s practical approach to learning, Carla knew this was where she wanted to study. The style of learning T Levels offered appealed to her, but she was unsure if she would meet the entry requirements needed to progress onto the course. When discussing this with her tutors at her course discussion, Carla discovered the T Level Foundation Year option. These 1 year courses are studied before enrolling onto the full time T Level course, providing students with the essential knowledge and qualifications needed to progress.

Carla has dreams of going into embalmment due to the personal nature of the role, but with the care skills and careers advice the course has allowed her to gain, she has broadened her knowledge of careers in the industry and is now considering a wide range of routes including radiography.

Carla said “I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a career in care as it covers a wide range of routes and pathways. The facilities are a great way to learn and get hands on experience. The foundation year courses are a great opportunity to prepare you if you don’t get the GCSE results you want because you are still able to study your chosen subject alongside this. The course incorporates lots of practical elements to your learning including sewing, designing supported living accommodation and presenting skills which has really helped my confidence.”

Due to her advanced ability and impressing her tutors, Carla will soon be progressing to a higher level Health & Social Care course as she continues her progression into the care industry. We are incredibly proud of her hard work as she demonstrates the clear path of progression Foundation Years can offer students.

We offer 4 T Level Foundation Year options for students who don’t quite meet the entry requirements for a full time T Level course straight away. These foundation year courses provide students with the fundamental skills needed for their industry and allows them to gain Level 2 GCSE Maths and English qualifications if needed. They are a fantastic opportunity to progress into the industry.

The T Level Foundation Year courses on offer at the college are:

  • T Level Foundation Year: Business, Accountancy & Digital
  • T Level Foundation Year: Construction Design, Surveying & Planning
  • T Level Foundation Year: Early Years
  • T Level Foundation Year: Health & Science
