Level 3 Creative Media Practice

Are you a creative person who enjoys using technology? Would you like a career in the fast-paced digital media industry? If so, this is the course for you! The highly practical two-year course is equivelant to 3 A Levels and delivers a specialist curriculum, allowing you to develop specific practical skills alongside learning about the digital media industry and professional practice.

This course is ideal for those who have completed a GCSE or level 2 vocational qualification in IT or media. This course will enable you to enhance your creative and technical skills in order to progress on to university or employment within the digital media industry.

During the course, you will cover a variety of topics such as storyboarding, music video production, editing techniques, documentary production, camera techniques, commercial production and podcasting.

You will be continuously assessed based on the projects you complete throughout the year. You will receive both verbal and written tutor feedback and will take part in peer assessments. Assessment is through set assignments and project coursework. You will also take part in an end of year show where you will have the opportunity to showcase your work.

Upon completing this course, there are number of progression pathways open to you, including employment and further or higher education. You may choose to progress on to the HNC Media course at Warrington & Vale Royal College or apply to a digital media related degree programme at a national university. Careers within this field are varied and include website designer, animator, social media manager, content developer, marketing manager, and computer graphic designer, to name but a few.

As part of your learning experience, you will work on a variety of live projects such as editing social media footage for local businesses. You will also have the opportunity to compete in national film competitions to broaden your work experience. To enhance your learning, you will hear from industry professionals from a range of media backgrounds. You will also work with universities and higher education institutions such as Edge Hill University and Futureworks, to gain an understanding of your future opportunities. Gaining valuable work experience and having the opportunity to work with real clients will enhance your learning and skills in the sector. You could even help to record footage for local schools and businesses, or work with local football clubs on their digital media communications.

You will be allocated a progress coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and progress on to your chosen career or progression path. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

As part of this exciting course, you will have the opportunity to take part in various trips across the year, including visits to the Bradford Media Museum, Warner Bros Studio tour and a residential trip to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Warrington & Vale Royal College has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including a green screen studio, DSLR cameras, and Apple Mac suites, featuring industry standard software such as After Effects, Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. These outstanding facilities and equipment will contribute to a first-rate learning experience.

You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or you will need to have successfully completed a related level 2 course. If you have not already achieved a grade 4 in your either your GCSE English or maths, you will undertake a smaller progression level 3 qualification and be required to work towards your GCSE in English/maths as part of your study programme.

The college provides some specialist equipment and materials, but students are expected to purchase their own notepads, folders, and pens.
