From Industry to Education: Tom's Journey into Teaching

After more than 20 years working as a plumbing and heating engineer, Tom made the decision to take his career in a new direction. Wanting to build on his extensive industry experience and explore new opportunities, he enrolled on the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills) at the college.

Throughout his course, Tom has developed a range of essential teaching skills, including lesson planning, delivering engaging sessions, and supporting a diverse range of students. He has particularly enjoyed putting these skills into practice, helping to build his confidence in the classroom.

Tom highlights the supportive and friendly tutors as a key part of his experience, saying they have made learning both engaging and motivating. Returning to education after more than 20 years, he has found the experience both positive and rewarding, changing his perspective on learning.

He said: “The course is helping me build the knowledge and confidence I need to succeed in education!”
