Employability Skills

Distance learning courses at Warrington & Vale Royal College are FREE OF CHARGE*

They:

  • Are ideal if you are working and would like to supplement your CV or you would like to develop your professional CPD
  • Give you the freedom to work at your own pace and in your own time, from the comfort of your own home
  • Provide you with a great balance between your studying and other commitments. e.g. home life, work, hobbies

Distance learning is a great way to achieve desirable qualifications while studying at a time and pace that suits you. Most students over the age of 19 will be able to study these courses for free, however, please contact us if you are aged 19-23 and do not yet have a full Level 2 qualification (five GCSEs grade 9-4/ A*-C, NVQ Level 2 or higher) as additional eligibility criteria may apply.

Courses will take between 8 and 16 weeks to complete depending on the length and complexity of the award and number of guided learning hours.

Before you enrol

To ensure the distance learning programme is right for you, we have highlighted a few points for you to consider.

  • You will need access to a computer or laptop with internet access.
  • All the learning materials will be provided via an online platform.
  • You will be expected to meet set timescales for submitting work and will need to manage your time effectively alongside any other commitments you may have.
  • Your funded course will need to be completed within the timescale given, failure to complete the course as agreed will/may result in a £100 non-completion fee.

These Distance Learning courses are accredited by NCFE or CACHE.

We offer a number choice of courses as part of our Employability Skills Distance Learning programme.

Level 1 – Award in Employability Skills

This qualification aims to develop and enhance skills required for the working environment and improve learners’ confidence and communication skills in order to prepare them for employment or for a change in employment.
There are 4 units in this award and learners will explore how understanding mindset and motivation can improve employability, look at what to expect in their initial days in the workplace, some of the basic skills needed to work in a team

Level 1 – Certificate in Employability

This qualification aims to further develop and enhance skills required for the working environment and follows on from the Level 1 award qualification. Learners will complete 10 units to include understanding mindset and motivation, problem solving at work, taking part in a project, working as a team and with colleagues and job search skills, including writing a CV and completing job applications.

Level 1 – Money Management

There are 2 units in this qualification, which provides learners with the knowledge and skills to manage personal finance beneficially and to anticipate future needs and wants. The award enables learners to explore financial products and services, the criteria for borrowing money and saving money. Learners will also look at managing their personal finances, risks to personal finance, comparing goods, service & services and credit scoring.

How am I assessed?

  • You will be assessed online through a series of short answer questions, with no formal exams and learn through self-study from the workbooks provided
  • You will complete the course using an interactive online learning platform.

*Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a certificate of achievement by NCFE/CACHE and you will hold a nationally recognised qualification. If you fail to complete your course you will need to pay £100.
To be eligible for funding you must meet the following criteria
– You are not currently on an apprenticeship
– You are age 19 or over
– If you are 19-23 years old you must already have at least a full level 2 qualification (e.g. NVQ level 2, GCSE A* to C, 4-9).
– You have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
– You are resident in England (not Wales, Ireland or Scotland)
