As an engineering technician, you will work in a wide range of engineering and manufacturing companies.
Technical support technicians, work as part of a team to provide technical support and expertise for all areas of the engineering and manufacturing function including, engineering drawing, quality control, computer control programming, operational technical support, engineering software development, product development and innovation.
The requirements are designed to offer stretch and progression. technicians will be able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timely delivery of the work they undertake. They will be proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas for improving the business.
This new Level 3 Engineering Technician Standard replaces a number of the old SASE Advanced Apprenticeship Frameworks in Engineering and at Warrington & Vale Royal College, you will be offered the following pathway: level 3 Technical Support Technician.

As an apprentice engineering technician you will learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to undertake a technical support technician role by attending tutored sessions at Warrington and Vale Royal College and gaining valuable industrial experience with your employer.
During this course you will initially learn foundation skills and knowledge in a workshop environment including electrical, mechanical, using lathes for turning operations, preparing and using milling machines and conducting business improvement techniques. You will then move onto the advanced stage where you will study a level 3 technical knowledge certificate including units:
Electrical principles and mechanical principles in these areas will enable you to progress to higher education in the future.
You will be assigned an Apprentice Coach who will guide you through the apprenticeship programme and assist you in studying a work based learning qualification to develop your skills and knowledge in the workplace alongside you employer which can be tailored to candidate and employer requirements. On completion of the on-programme qualifications the candidate will undertake an end point assessment to test their skills, knowledge and behaviours to achieve the apprenticeship standard and have access to professional engineering recognition.
This course is through part-time study typically in year 1 two days release and in years 2 & 3 one day release.
You will normally work around 30 hours per week, and no more than 40 hours (if you are under 18), which includes any training time at college (off the job) as well as on the job with your employer.
On completion of this course you could progress on to level 4 higher engineering apprenticeships.
You will be allocated an apprenticeship progress coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and onto your chosen career or progression path.

Entry requirements to this apprenticeship programme are GCSE grades 9-4, or Functional Skills level 2 in English and maths. We will consider those who need to re-sit either an English or maths qualification, however, those that need to re-sit both will not meet the entry requirements for this apprenticeship programme.
If you are required to re-sit either English or maths, you will be invited to undertake an initial assessment and if deemed suitable be willing to achieve Level 2 English or maths qualification before the end of the apprenticeship programme as part of your study.
