This level is ideal if you are just starting out and need a basic understanding of the electrical installation industry.
This fascinating and highly practical course will allow you to develop craft and hand-skills to prepare for a career in the Electrical Installation industry. You will study in fully kitted out workshops with the latest technology and equipment to ensure you are up to date with the current industry. You will study a range of topics such as health and safety, principles of electro-technology, electrical science, practical inspection and testing, electrical knowledge and practical wiring installation. You will also learn useful employability skills to ensure you have the best chances of success once your course is completed.

This course at Winsford campus is delivered over 2 evenings, 1 evening in college and 1 evening remote learning.
After successfully completing this course, you will have the skills and knowledge needed to progress onto the Level 3 in Electrical Installation, which can lead to opportunities to study at university, or take an apprenticeship to earn while you learn. You could also take an alternative route to progress into Electrical & Electronic Engineering. After progressing through the levels of study, many students on this course have progressed onto specialisms within the sector which include; alarm and emergency systems, renewable energy installation, building services, highway lighting, communications & IT.
Working with employers is a key part of our Electrical Installation course, to ready you for your next step. You will compete in competitions as well as taking part in regular site visits, with employers observing your work so you can show off your skills. We work with employers such as Napit, Crabtree, IET and Aico Ltd, to ensure that your knowledge is up to date with current industry standards.
You will also have the opportunity to undertake work placement which could lead to amazing opportunities. All students will complete 1 week work placement for every year of their course. Many of our previous students have gone above and beyond to complete additional voluntary work. This has even led to level 1 learners securing apprenticeship and part-time work opportunities.
We also have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required and a welfare team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

Our state of the art industry standard workshops will help to prepare you for working in Electrical Installation. We work with companies such as Collingwood Lighting, who supply us with the latest LED lighting for our students to work on, to make sure you have the best tools and equipment possible to complete your course. We are also the only college in the area to be supported by leading manufacturers such as Schnieder Electric who supply our students with the latest innovative 18th edition compliant products on the market, as well as Linian.
We have many expert tutors in place with over a century of experience working across the globe, passing on a wealth of knowledge to the new generation of electricians, and bringing a huge variety of experience to draw upon.
At Warrington & Vale Royal College we are proud of our students' abilities, so your skills will be showcased on the competition stage in yearly competitions, where companies, suppliers and employers are invited into the college to observe you working. Through connections with employers and impressing at these events, many students have landed apprenticeship and part-time job opportunities.
You will also have the opportunity to get out into industry throughout the year, on visits to places such as hydroelectric power plants and manufacturers, to gain an understanding in the inner workings of the industry, and get a taste of employment in the sector.
You will need steel toecap footwear for practical workshop activities as well as a college uniform. Additional costs are charged to cover visits, industry standard text books and other equipment, all of which remain the property of the student.
There are no entry requirements for the course, however you must have a good standard of English and maths. An interview with the course tutor will be required to determine suitability, and you may be required to undertake a pre-course assessment.
