To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, Warrington & Vale Royal College’s Brickwork, Carpentry & Joinery and Electrical Installation students built a touching memorial showcasing their skills.
Brickwork tutor Carl Atherton displayed his great-grandfather George Lennon’s war medals alongside the memorial. Private G.Lennon served as a member of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment within the Liverpool Pals battalion and fought in the Battle of Mons, the first major battle of World War One.
Construction Trades Curriculum Manager, Andy Atkin, said: “The students wanted to build something meaningful to show their respect and gratitude to those who gave their lives. It took brickwork students two days to complete the technical drawing and cuts for the poppy. The bricks used were donated by our college sponsor, Forterra.”
The college is looking for a permanent display for the special memorial, at their Warrington campus.
