Distance learning courses at Warrington & Vale Royal College are FREE OF CHARGE*

Distance learning is a great way to achieve desirable qualifications while studying at a time and pace that suits you. Most students over the age of 19 will be able to study these courses for free, however, please contact us if you are aged 19-23 and do not yet have a full Level 2 qualification (five GCSEs grade 9-4/ A*-C, NVQ Level 2 or higher) as additional eligibility criteria may apply.

Courses will take between 8 and 16 weeks to complete depending on the length and complexity of the award and number of guided learning hours.

Before you enrol

To ensure the distance learning programme is right for you, we have highlighted a few points for you to consider.

  • You will need access to a computer or laptop with internet access.
  • All the learning materials will be provided via an online platform.
  • You will be expected to meet set timescales for submitting work and will need to manage your time effectively alongside any other commitments you may have.
  • Your funded course will need to be completed within the timescale given, failure to complete the course as agreed will/may result in a £100 non-completion fee.

These Distance Learning courses are accredited by NCFE or CACHE.

We offer a number choice of courses as part of our Business, Administration & ICT Distance Learning programme.

Level 2 – Certificate in Equality & Diversity

This qualification is suitable for all learners, including those in or seeking employment. There are 3 units within the award. It is also ideal for those who need to develop an awareness of issues surrounding equality and diversity, for example as part of an induction programme or personal development.

Level 2 – Certificate in Understanding Data Protection and Data Security

The 2-unit qualification enables learners to demonstrate understanding of data protection and data security. It will help learners progress to a work role where data protection and data security knowledge is required. Learners will explore current data legislation, steps that organisations might take to help protect data and how to protect their own data, protect ICT systems from common threats and understand the consequences of not protecting data and systems.

Level 2 – Certificate in Cyber Security

With complex online scams and cyber crime, it is essential that organisations have an understanding of preventative measures to maintain cyber security, including techniques and security checks needed to store data securely. This online course is a key starting point for anyone looking to begin their career in cyber security. There are 2-units in this qualification, learners will be introduced to cyber security; understand terminology, legal and ethical aspects of cyber security; recognise common threats and investigate methods of maintaining cyber security.

Level 2 – Digital Skills

The purpose of this qualification is to allow learners to demonstrate understanding of and competency in digital literacy skills. In 4 units, the qualification will help learners understand how to protect devices and data, communicate socially and professionally using technology, apply digital skills in personal and business situations and use digital resources to facilitate their own career progression.
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved the Level 1 qualification in Digital Skills.

Level 2  – Certificate in Information, Advice or Guidance

This qualification is ideal for anyone with an interest or some involvement in information, advice or guidance delivery in their work. It would benefit learning support workers, mentors, and people working in voluntary organisations or with adult or community groups, tutors and outreach workers. There are 2 units in this qualification.

Level 2 – Business Improvement Techniques

This qualification will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of business improvement techniques which can be applied across many sectors and job roles. Learners will acquire knowledge of how to work effectively in a team, how to apply improvement techniques, techniques that support a workplace and how to solve problems. The qualification has 4 units and focuses on safe and effective team working, workplace organisation, continuous improvement techniques, visual management systems and flow process analysis.

Level 2 – Creating a Business Start Up

This qualification will provide learners with an understanding of the processes and requirements to create a business start-up. Learners will gain knowledge of the initial steps to take, will develop an awareness of their own business skills and will gain an increase in self-awareness and personal development. The qualification has 4 units and discusses the initial steps for business start-up; marketing, legal and financial considerations for a business start-up and developing an initial business plan.

Level 2 – Certificate in Lean Organisation Management Techniques

This qualification aims to improve business performance through continuous professional development of employees and their skill set. It supports the development of knowledge and understanding in business improvement techniques across a wide variety of industries and sectors. It’s ideal for employees working in areas where the need for improvements to quality, processes and costs has been identified. There are 3 units in this qualification

Level 2 – Certificate in Team Leading

The nationally accredited Certificate in Team Leading gives practising or potential team leaders the foundation for their formal development in this role. The 6-unit course helps to develop a wide range of team leading skills covering a number of aspects including establishing the team, motivation, communication, reporting structures and the relevant legislation required for the individual to progress confidently within their role.

Level 2 – Workplace Violence & Harassment

This qualification will focus on the study of possible causes of violence in the workplace and how to reduce the risk of workplace violence and harassment. It will provide learners with an understanding of how organisational policies and procedures can contribute to a safe working environment and will also give an understanding of why workplace violence may occur and how the risk of workplace violence can be reduced. There are 4 units to this qualification, focusing on positive and safe working environments, violence in the workplace, bullying & harassment and understanding equality, diversity and inclusion.

Level 2 – Certificate in Business Administration Principles

This qualification provides learners with the knowledge that is required to work in a range of environments in a business administration role. Learners will know how to carry out administrative tasks such as managing information and supporting events and will be able to apply their knowledge in a variety of industries and job roles. There are 3 units in this award.

Level 2 – Certificate in Customer Service Principles

The nationally accredited Certificate in Customer Service covers topics fundamental to the delivery of excellent customer service. The course helps to increase awareness of understanding and meeting customers’ needs, giving a great customer experience, learning from feedback and promoting products and services. It is suitable for all sectors and can help develop the learner’s understanding of the importance of excellent customer service to both colleagues and external contacts. There are 3 units in this qualification.

Level 2 – Understanding Climate Change & Environmental Awareness

Sustainability is quickly becoming a high priority for many businesses. Making moves towards becoming a ‘greener’ organisation can also provide cost saving initiatives, such as reducing waste or saving energy. This qualification covers the nature of climate change and the role that individuals, businesses and other organisations play in helping to reduce carbon emissions. This course gives the knowledge and understanding for individuals to act as drivers of positive change within the workplace and at home.
There are 3 units which focus on understanding climate change, sustainability and environmental protection; understanding industry and the environment & understanding resource efficiency and waste management.

How am I assessed?

  • You will be assessed online through a series of short answer questions, with no formal exams and learn through self-study from the workbooks provided
  • You will complete the course using an interactive online learning platform.

To be eligible for funding you must meet the following criteria
– You are not currently on an apprenticeship
– You are age 19 or over
– If you are 19-23 years old you must already have at least a full level 2 qualification (e.g. NVQ level 2, GCSE A* to C, 4-9).
– You have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
– You are resident in England (not Wales, Ireland or Scotland)
